Executive Director's Message

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the Port Chester Carver Center! Thank you for taking the time to visit our website, we are so happy to have you. As Executive Director, it is rewarding to meet people of all ages who come and go each week and who are benefiting in various ways, because Carver is here. It is also a privilege and exciting challenge to work with the staff, volunteers, and Board members who give their time to make Carver a better place for people to enjoy.

For almost 70 years Carver has provided real solutions for working class people, so that they can lead significant and independent lives. Carver remains committed to our mission of “building brighter futures”. The community we serve knows we are capable and stand ready to meet their needs and promote their growth.

When I joined Carver, it was my goal to have full use of our building, and maximize the space we have to provide Port Chester’s youth and adults with a safe haven for socializing and opportunities for healthy recreation. We have made this happen and we have the results to show for it: a completely renovated gymnasium with a new floor; a professional dance studio complete with mirrors and a ballet barre, state-of-the art fitness center, and an upgraded 56-year old swimming pool that serves up to 60 swimmers at a time.

The essential essence of Carver is that we have something to offer to everyone who comes through our doors. What would that look like for you? Will you enroll your child in our Saturday morning enrichment programs, come to our monthly Senior Citizen Breakfast, meet some friends for a basketball game, become a member of our fitness center, or volunteer in our After-School Program? No matter how you engage with Carver, we hope it adds to the way you and our community comes together.

A key to maintaining what we offer is to actively raise funds. Like many non-profit organizations, some of our funding has decreased with the economic downturn. But I see this as my primary goal – to find the funds that will keep the programs active and available.

I am proud to be apart of this wonderful organization and vibrant community. I hope that you will visit Carver soon to see for yourself what makes Carver the “heart & soul” of Port Chester.

Sincerely,
Kerry Walsh
Executive Director
