How You and Your Family Can Help
the Carver Center

HANDS-ON HELPING:

Adults:
· Drives—organize drives for items such as food, toys, baby items, clothing, coats, books, blankets, etc. Carver will arrange to pick up the items.

· Speakers—share your expertise on topics such as family planning, health issues, nutrition, stress management, safety, financial advice, insurance information, housing information, SAT prep, college prep, career advice, interview skills, resume writing, etc.

· Tutoring/mentoring/homework helpers

· Senior programs—help with senior breakfasts

· Adopt a family for Christmas

Children:

· Collect canned goods and cereals

· “Fun Fridays”—organize games or art projects for the children at Carver

· Healthy snack—prepare and serve a healthy snack to the children at Carver

· Initiate a fundraiser and donate the proceeds to Carver—examples include a bake sale, car wash, lemonade stand, raffle, make & sell crafts—be creative!

· Allowance—set aside a portion of your allowance and either donate it directly or purchase items that are on Carver’s “wish list” and bring them to Carver

· Birthday parties—donate some toys that you’ve outgrown prior to your birthday each year or ask your friends to bring a toy or a book for a needy child rather than a present when they come to your birthday party

HANDS-OFF HELPING:

Monetary Contributions:

· For general purposes--to be used on items or programs chosen by Carver’s directors

· For specific program purposes—earmark funds for items or programs such as food, baby items, sports equipment, arts & crafts supplies, summer camp, after-school program, senior breakfasts, etc.

When Hosting a Party:

· In lieu of gifts, ask your guests to make a contribution to Carver or bring specific items to the party (i.e. non-perishable food, books, clothing, toys) and donate them to Carver.

To Honor or Remember a Loved One:

· Make a contribution to Carver –for either general or specific purposes (see above)



Corporate Donations:


· If your company has excess inventory of product(s) that Carver might be able to use, call to organize the donation.
Examples include items such as computers, backpacks, school supplies, food, books, clothing, household items, etc.

· Consider asking your company to sponsor a Carver program or make a matching contribution

· Hold drives for clothing, food, school supplies and bring the donations to Carver

Bulk Item Donations:

· Carver will arrange to pick up bulk donations such as furniture, computers, large amounts of clothing and/or food, etc.
